What material is the oil seal made of? What are the common ones?

The rubber oil seal is generally molded with oil-resistant rubber. Nitrile rubber is one of the most commonly used rubber for the oil seal and O-ring.NBR oild seal is the most widely used and lowest cost rubber seal. The most commonly used materials for producing oil seals are polypropionate rubber, silicone rubber, fluorine rubber,EPDM rubber,HNBR rubber ,ptfe and so on.

How to choose oil seal?

The selection of oil seal is similar to the selection principle of other seals. The selection of oil seal should also be based on the sealing medium and working conditions, and the selection of oil seal type and material. For the use of working conditions mainly consider the use of pressure, working line speed, working temperature range.

When selecting the material of oil seal, it is necessary to consider the compatibility of the material to the working medium, the adaptability to the working temperature range and the ability of the lip to follow the high-speed rotation of the rotating shaft. The temperature of the lip edge of the general oil seal is 20~50℃ higher than the temperature of the working medium, so attention should be paid to the selection of oil seal materials.

The use pressure of ordinary oil seal generally does not exceed 0.05mpa. When the working pressure exceeds this value, pressure-resistant oil seals should be selected.

The working range of oil seal is related to the material used for oil seal: the material is butadiene rubber (NBR) -40~120℃, ethylene propylene rubber (EPDM) -50~150℃, fluorine rubber (FPM) -25~300℃.
