How to effectively reduce the cost of purchasing molds?
Aug 02, 2021
In my opinion, we first need to understand the expected order volume of new products. Is it huge?
In the development review stage of a new product, if the estimated order quantity does not reach more than 500,000, it is recommended not to harden the mold and open the soft mold directly, which is what we usually call the test mold. The cost of the soft mold is low. If the market response is not good, then It saves some unnecessary costs of hard mold opening.
If the sales market for later products is opened and the demand for products increases sharply, you can open the second set of hard molds at any time during the mass production of the first set of molds, that is, copy molds. This will not affect the production of the product at all. There is also a more obvious advantage of the shipment progress: the mold factory will accumulate a set of design and production experience during the development of the first set of molds, and this experience will be greatly affected when the second set of molds are opened. Improve the space. Even if you don't ask for this, the mold factory will undoubtedly take the initiative to do it, because this will reduce detours and make the copy mold more perfect and perfect.
Conversely speaking, if the expected order quantity of the product is not known, the product mold will be launched from the beginning of the product project, which will only increase your mold procurement cost by at least 1/3; in addition, the mold cost will also need to be increased in the engineering design stage. Take into account, except if the product requirements are high or the customer specifies which materials and processes are required to be used
Finally, to summarize, the following points should be paid attention to when choosing a mold factory:
(1) Do not blindly believe in low purchase prices, as the saying goes: you get what you pay for, and behind the low prices are often hidden traps that we don't know, or they are shoddy. Well, cut corners, know that any mold factory has to pay rent, water and electricity, support workers, and make profits?
(2) Be sure to find a mold factory with incomplete supporting equipment. I once had a lesson in this aspect. At that time, I chose a small workshop-type mold factory because of the price. The entire mold department of this factory only had a few Ten people, not even a CNC, and other mechanical equipment is not complete, the only few equipment are some old equipment pieced together, and the result can be imagined, that is really called one. Can't bear to look back! ! !
(3) Finally, I suggest that you consider the situation and characteristics of your respective factories when choosing a mold factory, and make an objective assessment of the needs and positioning of molds and products with all departments of the company before making a reasonable choice, which will achieve a relatively satisfactory effect. !
